It started at 6:30pm on 25th September. The basic design was sketched and bulk of the first coat of paint was done the same day. Apart from Rang senior members, 4-5 freshies were completely involved even during the first day. We stopped at 10:30 pm for the day with a promise to resume the fun at 2pm the next day.

At 2pm, under the afternoon Sun, we began with a workforce of jus 5 people, three of them freshies. People came and left. 10 people on an average were there throughout the evening. It went on till 1:30am when finally we decided to wrap up for the day. About 10-15 freshers participated with 7-8 for extended period of time

It was a fantastic experience for all of us, the seniors as well as the freshers. Freshers specially did a commendable work during the last 5 hours when a lot of work was done so fast.

We will be resuming tonight at 9pm for final 2hours of work

Word Games Workshop

WORDGAMES WORKSHOP

The word games workshop, which was held on Monday, the 27th in the H1 mess, was a huge success and saw a large participation, including a lot of seniors. Word games have always been a very dynamic, interesting and challenging genre of Literary Arts and have always been enjoyed in the institute. The workshop was conducted by Eeshan Malhotra and Meghna Sreenivasan and was very interactive, with the ever- enthusiastic freshmen zestfully responding for the chocolates at stake. A major part of the evening was dedicated to Cryptic Crosswords and the rest to games like Boggle, Snatch, Kangaroo and Joey, Ditloids, amongst others. The workshop was highly enjoyable and will surely help draw lots of Literati members into Word games in the years to come. The workshop will be followed by an informal Cryptics-solving session in the SAC library on the coming Wednesday.

Nobel Quiz Mumbai

The much hyped Nobel Quiz was conducted today by the Swedish Embassy in L.T today. With an all expenses paid trip to Sweden at stake for winning the national finals and Swedish internships for making it there, the hype was completely justified. The elims contained questions on Sweden, and the Nobel prizes. Conspicuous by their absence were questions on Physics, Chemistry and Economics, which was slightly disappointing to the people who had prepared those particular topics.

IITB performed exceedingly well as was expected. 5 out of the 6 finalists of the Mumbai edition were home teams, including a freshie team. Rahul Gaur, Ashwin Krishnan and Ashwin Raghavan won the quiz and will now go to the nationals. The relatively unknown team of Animesh, Anish and Nikhil came second, proving that a bit of preparation was enough to do well at the quiz. Rounding up the top three was the team of Abhishek Padmanabhan, Abhishek Muli and Gururaj Saileshwar.
Best of Luck to the winners and may IITB dominate the nationals also.

Basic Video Editing Workshop

Basic Video Editing Workshop was successfully conducted on 21st September, Tuesday in IRCC Auditorium. The Auditorium was filled to its capacity and people really enjoyed learning the basics of Sony Vegas. The workshop was taken by Rahul Ajmera and he had a team of editors to help people out in hands-on practice of the software.
Starting at 8:30 p.m. it took us about half an hour to install/re-install/troubleshoot Sony Vegas in the laptops of the students who were struggling with the same. Thereafter 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. it was all about editing the videos.
The workshop helped a lot of freshies who are planning to make music videos for freshizza to get a feel of what all they can achieve through editing.
It was overall a well executed workshop and we will have advance workshops to follow this one up.

Cheers,

Rahul Shankar Bhardwaj

Professional Ad Making Workshop by Mrs Gita Sashidharan

Thursday, 23 September 2010
Hostel 3 Lounge

With the Ad making GC around the corner, Fourth Wall conducted an ad making workshop by a professional,
Mrs. Gita Sashidharan to give the students insights on how to go about the entire event.

This was the first under the new initiative of Hostel-to-Hostel workshop program. The idea of this program is to bascially invite 2 representatives from each hostel to attend a workshop who can then replicate the same workshop in their respective hostels. This is considering the fact that professionals generally limit the number of people in a workshop to 25-30. To reach out to more students, this seems to be a a good idea.

A brief profile of Mrs. Gita

  • Partner of a self founded, Public Relations, Branding, Events & Corporate Training firm called VBuzz Communications.
  • Has had a long stint of advertising as client service executive with Lintas, Calcutta.
  • Freelanced for several advertising agencies in developing copy for ads and handled public relations work by developing internal communication tools such as in-house journals and newsletters for several companies.
  • Has been in the field of corporate training for the last 18 years.
  • Academician and teach in several colleges in Mumbai for the students of the undergraduate & postgraduateprogram in Mass Media & Management studies

With certain pains in the original venue and after 2 shifts of venues, the workshop finally began in Hostel 3’s lounge.
Mrs. Gita, an extremely cooperative and charming woman, waited patiently while we sorted out all things.

The workshop finally began as an interactive session telling the students all that goes into ad making. From how could one choose a product, to getting things right, making it suitable for the audience, how to write jingles etc.  The students too enjoyed the workshop asking infinite quiestions as GIta Ma’m tackled each one patiently and convincingly. Her long career in ad making made the workshop even more interesting as she stated out examples from her past experiences. Towards the end, she mentioned a few exercises which the students could do when conducting the workshop in their respective hostels.

Overall, the workshop was an awesome learning experience and hope the students can forward all that they learnt to their hostels as well.
